Cellulite In Women Over 40

What is cellulite? Is it possible to remove cellulite especially when you are over 40? And how can women over 40 get rid of cellulite?

What face do you make when you talk about cellulite…many fear it…many call it “cottage cheese”…orange peel…dimples ….but what is cellulite??

What Is Cellulite?

Cellulite is most common in women and can appear as early as adolescence.

This lumpy, dimpled look is commonly found on your abs, hips, tush and thighs. It can be found in other areas such as your calves and arms too.

The good news is cellulite is not a serious medical conditions. (Not to be confused with cellulitis which is a common and can be serious bacterial infection of the skin).

What Exactly Is Cellulite?

Cellulite is body fat that is pushing through to the skin.

Imagine you have your layer of muscle, then above it is the skin.

In between the muscle and the skin are column fibers called collagen. Envision something similar to a net. Interlaced between these columns is your body fat. When the body fat increases it pushes against the fibers the skin and muscle which produces the dimpled effect.

Why are we sooo bothered by this lumpy skin?

What are the first things that come to mind when you think about cellulite??

Maybe that you are over weight??

That if you have “cottage cheese” thighs you are not in shape?

Or you’re a horrible human being because you aren’t thin yet?

Cellulite can be genetic – meaning you can be predisposed to having it.

I was 16 when I first saw cellulite on the back of my thighs. I weighed 115 lbs.

When I was dancing professionally, I still had some cellulite on the back of my thighs. I was 98 lbs.

Body structure also plays a part. If you are an endomorph (pear shaped) you will tend to have dimpling on your hips, butt and thighs. Sitting for the endomorph will break down the fibers and make that cellulite push out a bit more. If you are more apple shaped, you will probably see it in your stomach.

How Do You Get Rid Of The Cottage Cheese??

Here are some of the crazy things “available”:

  1. Creams

  2. Lotions

  3. Rolling

  4. Cryolipolysis – Cool Sculpting (damages the collagen so if and when you gain weight you will look dis-formed). I looked at a cryolipolysis website and they were talking about how when you eat fat in food the body “processed fat gets used as energy and excess fat gets stored as fat ”. Well no duh! Here’s the problem with shady sites that take advantage of people like you….it doesn’t matter if you eat too much fat or protein or carbs – eat too many calories that you don’t burn off it is held in storage also known as body fat!

  5. Lyposuction – when you fat is removed from one area (which is typically your primary fat storage area)…when you gain weight you will gain it in your secondary site (which might be your ankles or your earlobes!!)

If you think some cream or magic pill is going to get rid of cellulite you are misinformed.

Stop wasting money on creams and lotions and expensive surgeries because typically what happens after those surgeries is that you haven’t learned the tools and skills you need to maintain the weight loss. Stop putting a band aid on the problem and start putting forth the effort on a real, long-term solution.
