Stay Healthy During The Holidays

HoliDAY Fit Tip to Staying Healthy During The Holidays

I don’t know about you…but I LOVE this time of year!

I love how the houses all twinkle at night.

My house is decorated  in pine and holiday decor.

I love that people seem to be in better spirits (unless you are at the mall -lol!)

People are busy running around to get things and do things all in preparation for this one day.

This one day where we all come together to celebrate our faith, family and friends.

This one day where we eat until we are in a food coma and have to go lay down because we can’t move.

Now, if it was just one day this would not derail all your hard work at Shape It Up…but this tends to be the trend for the whole month!

So during this last week before the big day, don’t totally  jump off the fitness sleigh. It really can be simple to stay healthy during the holidays.

Here are some quick fit tips to sty healthy during the holidays:

#1 Take a deep breath!  Even if it’s for 2 minutes take a moment to take a deep breathe and relax.  Feel free to do this a couple times during the day (especially when you are stuck in traffic or waiting in a long line at the mall).

#2 Don’t stop working out!  If you can make it to your workouts – fantastic! If you are really tight on time add your workout in throughout the day.  Park far from the mall.  Carry all your bags of gifts (don’t get a cart).  If you are home making cookies or decorating – set the timer for 25 minutes and get your holiday things done, then for 5 minutes do 1 minute of each Jumping Jacks, crunches, push-ups and squats, repeat…

#3 Don’t be scared of those office/family parties sending you into a sugar tail spin!  Change your focus from eating to enjoying the company of those at the party. The worst thing you can do is not eat to “save up” for your party.  Try to pick the best bad choice you have available to you.

#4 Enjoy yourself!  Know that if you make healthy choices over the holidays that you’ll be setting yourself up for better results when you get back into your fitness routine.
